Project Ethiopia

I am a big fan of Project Runway.... It's not about the people or even the fashion, I just love and am fascinated with being able to take a flat peice of fabric and create something beautiful like a gown or a jacket, or even just a pair of jeans! It's as if this fabric has been brought to life and now has a personality all it's own, it moves, and has shape and character! It's amazing to me!
This transformation is the inspiration for our first fundraiser.... We will be selling scarfs for the new Sanders baby!
First of all, let me just say that I am obsessed with scarfs! I can't get enough, and they really just make any outfit better and make it look like you put way more effort into it than you actually did. Nuff said:) But these scarfs are even more unique. There is a "from death to life" transformation in each one. Each scarf is made out of an old t-shirt! We cut, stretch, and pull these lifeless peices of fabric and make them into something with shape and character! And an even added bonus, is because of how they are made and what they are made out of, each scarfs is a complete original! I truely beleive that this was a God-given idea, meant to financially help us through the adoption journey.
So enough talking about it, here is a look at the product:

Above is the Fringe style (btw, these are totally names that I made up. Im sure there is a more technical name for it)
Thank you to some of my youth group girls for being my models! You are beautiful!
And I call this one the Noodle style (again, I am to blame for that name)

We are selling these for $20 per scarf, which may seem a little high, but we are trying to adopt a baby people! hehe! They are very cute and would make great Christmas gifts for the ladies on your lists!
Here are a few of the ways you can help us out with this fundraiser:
1. buy a scarf (or two or three)
2. If you have a group of people in your "circle of influence" (your work/church/family) that you think would love these you can take a sack of 5 or 6 with you to sell for me! Or I could come to you and have a party at your house or come and set up something at your work or church if you have an area that would allow for that.
3. Help me with some creative ideas on how to get the word out on these! All of your brains and ideas can do much more than mine can all by itself. As my pastor says (shout out to Pastor Joe!) "It takes teamwork to make a dream work"

Our goal is to sell 300 scarfs before Christmas time! Wow! I know that's a lot, but that will help us reach our most immediatly goal. We have to give the agency almost $10,000 in the next few months in order to submit our dossier to Ethiopia.... this gets us on the waiting list! In other words.... we need to sell some scarfs!

So, if you want to buy, or set up a time for me to come, or you have an idea, here is how you can reach me. My email is velocityyouth@yahoo.com. Our facebook is facebook.com/ajourneyforlove and you can message me through that as well. I will be posting a lot of this info on Facbook as well so help me spread the word!

We are beleiving in faith that God is going to do big things with this project! Thank you for being a part:)

...and that's all that matters

I have been looking forward to the moment that I would get to blog about this next adoption milestone...... we have completed our dossier! Some of you may be wondering, what in the world is a dossier? I had no idea what one was either before this process began for us. Let me give you the basic rundown.... Basically the dossier, is a TON of paperwork, that acts as a profile for your family. Photo pages, background checks, application letter, references, home study, birth certificates, etc, etc, etc.... Our families dossier is exactly 50 pages in length! Which may not seem like a lot, but let me tell you, it is! It's not just the pages themselves, it's the precision in which each page must be executed that makes you want to pull your hair out! Notarize this, make sure each date matches exactly, any mistakes must be initialed and dated..... and the list goes on and on. I started our dossier in August of 2012 and just completed it yesterday. Now granted, I basically took the who...

When I see your face...

To be at this point already is completely surreal. As you know, we started this adoption journey in 2012. 2012! So, to be honest, you almost give up on the dream after that many years. The thought of there being a child on the other end of this hope becomes nothing more than a fantasy, a passing thought when you see a child in Target, or a longing that comes in the quiet of night right before you go to sleep. But it's certainly not a daily reality. It can't be. It's too hard. We got the email on May 26th... "Your family's CARINGS registration has been received and is under review!" CARINGS is the adoption "list" for India. Once you are registered on this list and approved you can be matched with a child. Gulp. But our email stated that it could take up to 6 to 8 weeks to be approved, so we settled in to wait for a bit. You would think after all these years that the waiting would be easier, but its so much harder right now. We feel so close and ...

Birthday Letters

Today is our little boy's first birthday! We want so desperately to be with him today, but that is not the story we are walking. So, we decided to each write him a letter on this day to share with him later in life. It's the best way we can think to celebrate him... to share just a glimpse of how much he is loved by his mom and dad. ..................................................................... Hey my little man! First of all HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY!!! Yay for you, and I must say one is a very big deal! Daddy wants to tell you something about your birthday that you may not have known. So you were born on October 30th 2016, but mommy and daddy weren't there. In fact we weren't even with you when you turned one, crazy I know, but you will understand someday... Anyways mommy and daddy pastor a church in glenpool, and on October 29, 2016 we were busy setting up for a candy walk, and a movie on the lawn at our church. We got it all built/set up and the night starte...
